Phil Jefferies works mostly in the medium of oil paint on canvas, with occasional use of enamel and acrylic paint and textured backgrounds. Inspiration comes from nature, decorative and abstract influences and modern painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
His paintings evolve rapidly after long periods of contemplation and also use discoveries made whilst painting. They involve an intuitive process, but with an intention always to make a satisfying composition.
The content can be a landscape, a portrait, or an abstract expression, but the resemblance to the subject is not the most important principle; it is more the feelings that are invoked and the physical paint on canvas that are the main concern.
